The beginning of stability in the Tangent Lineup - 4 out of five members of this band have been in place ever since. The album is a sequel to the debut album. It is a very "up" and quite rocky prog album and a favourite among band members

Fan release album originally from 2009 - features half of the unfinished album "The Rite Of Spring" which was to have been a full interpretation of Stravinsky's Meisterwerk - forbidden by Boosey & Hawkes . Also features some of the bands first forays into political music including the poignant "Live On Air". Highly regarded among Tangent fans, this album is a good place to start your expanded Tangent collection

"Upon listening to this album, I can fairly say this is more than just your average album of extras. In fact this SHOULD have been made as a proper album. I feel this and Down And Out In Paris And London are companion pieces of the sorts. I’m really glad to have been able to hear the music because I would highly recommend those of us that missed out on the first pressing, to rejoice and get a copy of this reissue ASAP!" This is a Tangent FAN RELEASE and contains firstly a series of tracks recorded but not completed during the "Sacre Du Travail" sessions in 2012/2013. Included is the major track "The Iron Crows" which is another Tangent rendition of classical music, the piece in question being Debussy's "La Mer". Secondly there are some alternate mixes and versions of songs taken from the bands earlier career. For the completist! A PDF of the digipack art is included - there was never a tray card for this album, no jewel case edition ever happened.

"L’Etagère Du Travail (‘The Work Shelf’) is a strong release in its own right. Standing out among the new material the raging Monsanto (a brutal attack on the arrogant multinational) and The Iron Crow, based on Debussy’s La Mer, allow the effusive Tillison free range to come on like a contemporary Keith Emerson.

The excellent Supper’s Off sees Tillison directing his well-aimed ire at the laziness of the middle-aged punter. The band revisit The Ethernet, originally from Not As Good As The Book, with Jakko Jakszyk on vocals and a searing guitar. A live version of The Canterbury Sequence evokes that scene’s wonderful sound and shows just what a skilled interpreter Tillison can be.."

After Roine Stolt left the band in 2004 Andy wished to continue with the project and thus began the era of many lineup changes which lasted until 2014. "Queue" has always been a favourite and Andy Tillison has often referred to it as "the band's second debut album"

A Jazz Rock album (known better as "Multiplex" than its original title of "Electric Sinfonia No 2") is very much a "Tangent For One" album without (for 95 percent) vocals, For those who enjoy keyboard driven prog and fusion, this is a must. It's a total solo effort with Tillison playing all instruments from Drums to guitar. After this album Jazz fusion became a much larger part of the Tangent's working manifesto

The Third Andy Tillison solo album is still influenced and tinged with Electronica but has many other sources. Recorded while recuperating from a heart attack the album is slightly scatty in terms of its focus. It isn't sure whether it's a full blown Prog Rock album, a Berlin School album or a dance album. A lot of the stylistic ideas for the Tangent's "The Adulthood Lie" first surfaced here, along with an ELP style workout based around a classical masterpiece, suitably smashed to bits with Hammond organs and synthesisers. Add to that a piece inspired by Camel's "The Snow Goose" and you have a highly confusing album which has no marketability at all. Except to people who like albums that have no marketability. This Tangent "Spin Off" project was recorded during the COVID pandemic and is a homage not just to the world of Italian 1970s Progressive Music (RPI) but also to one particular band who Andy Tillison met when he was 14 years old and never heard of again. They were called Allium. The full story can be found on the website for this project which you can find HERE The album is a full blooded Rock Progressivo Italiano album sung, powerfully by Roberto Tiranti in Italian, with Lyrics by Antonio De Sarno.

"Fans of the (largely German) style of electronic music will find a lot to enjoy on this album, even if they are not fans of typical progressive rock music. Others, largely one presumes fans of The Tangent, will not be disappointed by large sections of this release and it may even encourage them to seek out the music of bands they had otherwise not been aware of or had previously ignored. And that's the beauty of music, discovering the influences behind one's favourite pieces, expanding one's horizons into new territories and learning to appreciate just what can be done with the 12 notes of the chromatic scale. ."

The second of Andy Tillison's "ambient" albums features - like "Fog" many influences from the Berlin School of electronic music. "Duck chatter and spherical synth bubbling introduces the first track "axis bold as fish" (what a title!), before gentle sequencer patterns and floydy electro sounds introduce the more moving part. Flowing but gripping soundscapes of buzzing, shimmering synths, organ sounds and all kinds of effects unfold over electronic percussion. The track then surprises with a suddenly jazzy interlude, dominated by piano and acoustic guitar, which can even elicit a few flamenco tones to finally end gently pulsating. In between, Tillison also lets himself be carried away by a tangent memory organ solo, which seems curious and funny in this environment. That's already very entertaining. As I said, Tillison has a knack for presenting synthetic music in a very lively way. Above all, the vital drumming is remarkable"

"Kalman Filter" is a name that Andy has now given to his ambient/electronica projects. So in effect this is the third in the series that brought "Fog" and "Murk" into the world. The album is a science fiction project in which the music is not intended to "go with" or "be inspired by" the concept. On this album, the music IS the fiction. The strange, beautiful and complex sounds of a planet far away

"After Tillison’s last Tangent album, THE SLOW RUST OF FORGOTTEN MACHINERY, there were a lot of hard feelings against his politics, at least in the United States. Certainly, several proggers refused to buy the album, and others felt so strongly that they swore off Tillison’s music, once and for all time. Yet, even those angry at Tillison recognized his music as pure genius. If you were one of the “Never Tillisons” after THE SLOW RUST, please reconsider. There’s not a single lyric on THE KALMAN FILTER, and he and Matt Stevens (as always; another brilliant musician and man) play their hearts out.

Tillison, whatever his political views, is a sheer genius. The KALMAN FILTER only reaffirms my love of all things Tillison. Ave, Mr. Diskdrive."

Where Do We Draw the Line?

This is the first commercial release of one Andy Tillison Diskdrive. Chumbawamba were all somehow involved in the making of this record, be that playing or (oddly) babysitting - the whole concept of this proto prog band playing Anarcho gigs was totally off-the-scale weird and one day The Guardian might find time to do a story about a politically motivated band who at this point were singing about the injustices of the Berlin Wall and Apartheid which were both still in situ - and basically carried on ranting through music for the next 40 years, from Thatcher to Brexit, Trump, Putin and all points between. The Corner Of My Room
The Corner Of My Room - Po90

The Debut album by Po90 from 1996. Includes "The Third Person" which is almost certainly the first Mp3 ever to have been posted on the internet (before the release of the album and only hours after the software to make an mp3 had been released). The album was made entirely on a home desktop PC in the days before people did that type of thing. Each song required a whole hard disk to itself and in the case of "The Media Pirates" it needed two. The band only owned ONE hard disk at the time and therefore it all had to be backed up onto a tape drive every time they needed to work on a different song. This album must surely be one of the earliest recordings to feature a song ABOUT the internet.

""Blues for Lear" brings the music in mellow style with piano as main rhythm section. It moves flawlessly to the next segment with vocal but it still in bluesy music. The epic "The Time Capsule" encapsulates the band's vision for their music. With 22 minute plus duration, this might be of interest to those who love classic prog songs that endure more than 20 minutes like in Van der Graaf's "Pawn Hearts" album.

The fourth album in the Po90 band's canon, the first time the band used the PC as the complete recording system (i.e. the first main usage of virtual instruments). Exotic Ways
More Exotic Ways To Die - Po90

The last in the series of contiguous Po90 albums that began in 1996, this was the band at is most outreaching. Dan Watts and Andy Tillison's writing coupled with the forceful rhythm section and wall of sounds made an album that was brutal yet somehow tender. Probably the band's own favourite. Try "Petroleum Addicts" if you're not sure. The original CD (not available now) had an experimental content which included much of the band's back catalogue, unreleased tracks and a complete performance of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" - using a very rarely utilised method of adding computer CD Rom partitions to the disc. "PO90's earlier albums were full of melancholic prog rock, with hypnotising spacy sounds and fusion elements. The new album is quite different. The song writing was more a group effort, and the recordings took place in a more spontaneous atmosphere, with less overdubbing. This has resulted in a less introvert album, with a live-in-the-studio atmosphere (and in fact some parts were recorded at live gigs).

The music on the new album is more aggressive and powerful (with often uncompromising sound eruptions), and also more guitar dominated. Still, most of the recognisable elements of earlier PO90 albums are present here.invested. Rob Michel: DPRP.net

Jitters
Jitters - Po90

Po90 re-united for a couple of years in 2009, did a fair few gigs and made this (currently) last album "Jitters". It was a particularly enjoyable iteration of the band and no less creative than its predecessors and this album shows a huge drive and energy which was sadly overlooked at the time. Without doubt the band deserved more attention, and Andy Tillison cites the Dan Watts composition "On The Death Of Jade" (lyrics by Andy) as "probably the best and most individual thing I was ever involved with in a whole career" A noisy, angry and totally forward thinking album lost in the mists of time
