"A wonderful album that presses all the right buttons for me. Although rooted in the classic progressive rock style of the 1970s, it stands up fully to the prog scene of the new millennium. The lyrics are from the top drawer (as would be expected from one of the most pertinent lyricists writing today), the playing and arrangement can't be faulted and the production is impeccable. If you only buy one progressive album a year then The Music That Died Alone should be the one!" Mark Hughes DPRP.net : 10 out of 10

"It was a difficult task to equal their excellent debut album, but with The World That We Drive Through The Tangent have proven that this wasn't just a one-off project. It has to be said though that this new album misses the surprise element of The Music That Died Alone. The music is still solid retro prog, but while the first album ventured mainly in the bands of the seventies, and more specifically the Canterbury Scene, this new album sounds a lot more like eighties' neo prog. Still great though, all the individual songs are little masterpieces, yet on the whole the album misses the punch of its predecessor." DPRP.net Bart Jan van der Vorst : DPRP.net 8.5 out of 10:

"This is the first new release of 2006 that I have heard and it's thrown down the gauntlet for the rest of the year, a yard-stick against which all prog releases will be measured. To be honest, I'm really not sure many will even get close to the quality and consistency of this album. It's with egg on my face and a slight cower that I go looking for my copy of "The World That We Drive Through" to see what I missed.
A must for all discerning prog lovers, ignore it at your peril."

"I have a sneaking feeling that this is destined to become not only my favourite from the band but also a contender for album of the year. OK, so I know we’re only two months into 2008 but either way this is an exceptional release demonstrating prog at its finest. It’s a well rounded album with music that’s tuneful and highly listenable but at the same time richly rewarding in its complexity. The icing on the cake is the lyrics. Rather than simply creating and aural backdrop they have real meaning and the ability to strike a chord with the listener. And that’s something you don’t find everyday in a prog album."

"I have mixed feelings about this latest album from The Tangent which is challenging my overall assessment. Where Are They Now? and Perdu Dans Paris contain some of the best and most tuneful work the band has ever done whilst Paroxetine and The Company Car are for me far less immediate with The Canterbury Sequence sitting somewhere in the middle. Given time my opinion may change but to be fair I have been listening to this album almost constantly for the last few weeks. One thing’s for sure the lyrics are up to Andy Tillison’s usual high standards with his now familiar mix of social consciousness and autobiographical observations. He’s without doubt one of my favourite lyricists and in terms of song writing, arrangements and playing he seems to have taken a lot more on his shoulders this time around."

"With COMM, The Tangent once again succeeded in recording a very pleasant hour of fantastic progressive rock music, but what else can you expect from a new album of this very talented band? This is just the kind of music I like to listen to on a daily basis. I can never get enough of this genre and therefore this album certainly will make many spins in my CD-player. With this album, The Tangent released one of the musical highlights of 2011. No arguments about that as far as I'm concerned!"

"In the press release provided by Inside Out, the band’s label, Andy Tillison comes across as slightly unsure as to whether the band’s loyal fans will appreciate and embrace this ‘new direction’ that the band chose to follow with “Le Sacre Du Travail”, but I fail to see how this could ever be possible. It is fine to be daring, as long as you have the skills to pull off such a difficult task, and Tillison and Co have achieved this with unnerving ease.
For some, being a Progressive musician means operating and adhering to rules and formulae, first established four decades ago – others feel that the term inherently implies that boundaries should be pushed. Tillison’s success is that he somehow manages to satisfy both and this is what makes “Le Sacre Du Travail” such a good album."

"This is a wonderfully organic recording that has once again reinvented The Tangent. The playing throughout is, as you’d expect, top notch and this is certainly an album to immerse yourself in. As a band – and I’ve said this before! – I hope they stay together and see where they can take things next. The Tangent has always been a hell of a journey – sometimes frustrating but always fascinating – and they’re back on top form with this one, doing what they do best whilst spicing things up with the unexpected.!" "With ‘The Slow Rust of Forgotten Machinery (or, Where Do We Draw the Line Now?)’ The Tangent have progressed by retaining everything that made their previous work great while seamlessly integrating these elements with new musical contributions that hold up to the weighty subject matter. The album burns with all the conscience and compassion called for by our times. It simultaneously maintains a spirit of joy and playfulness in the performances. A clear contender for Album of the Year, ‘Slow Rust’ is wonderfully immediate while reserving unfathomable depths to be explored across repeated listens for years to come." LIVE ALBUM COMPILATION - On January 21 2023 Insideout records released "Pyramids, Stars and Other Stories" - a double CD or Triple Vinyl collection that features the whole of the 2004 "original band" set recorded in Germany and highlights of other performances from 2011 and 2017 - covering three epochs of the band's history.. Featuring Roine Stolt, Jonas Reingold, Andy Tillison, Luke Machin, Tony Funkytoe Latham, Dan Mash, Zoltan Csorsz all bundled together with memoirs, photos and presented in Ed Unitsky's re-imagining of his 2004 artwork for the independent release of "Pyramids and Stars".
Pyramids, Stars and Other Stories is an essential addition to the canon. Not merely a rehash of the studio cuts, these performances breathe new life into what were already great compositions. If you are new to the band, this is as fine a place as any to begin your journey. The gods of the seventies triple album would be damn proud.
By the time COMM was released the band had had 4 drummers since the preceding album. Despite the chaos here this album is notable for being the debut of Luke Machin in the band. Most of the many global live shows from Russia to Canada at this time featured Dan Mash (bass), Tony Latham and Michael Gilbourne (drums)

Tired, - beyond tired, hungry and utterly broke, this is the sound of a band whose job is to sell enough merch to get the petrol home. A second "Offical Bootleg" this captures the UK lineup of the band in its best orientation - a lineup which sadly never made a studio album
